A New Co-op Shopping Cart Goes Live!
Ever since our old shopping cart vendor unexpectedly changed their software
on us, our technical team has been working non-stop on new shopping cart
software. And sure enough, last night it went live!
We have high hopes that, aside from some to-be-expected-tweaking ahead, our
new shopping cart will vastly improve Co-op shopping for our fair members.
Here are some of the things we’re excited to share about the new shopping
cart experience:
- Quick “estimated shipping” calculation for UPS, USPS and FedEx will now
be available, so you don’t have to wait until check-out.
- Check-out has also been simplified (only one page now).
- Shipping confirmations as well as order confirmations will be sent via
email.
- Shipping and billing information will now be stored (no re-typing each
time you order).
- Payment options will include not only Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and
PayPal, but also money orders and checks by mail. Even if you want to pay by
check or money order, you may now order online, see your order total --
including shipping and handling, and send in your check or money order. When
we receive your check or money order, we will ship your order. It’s that
simple.
- Order tracking will now be available through our website.
- Past orders and order status will now be available on our website.
- Backorders will now be accepted for out-of-stock items for which you
don’t want to keep checking status. We will ship all in-stock items and any
products on backorder will be ship once we’re back in stock.
- Recent history of products you’ve recently viewed will be available
while browsing our website.
- Gift certificates will now be available.
- Wish lists will be available for those of you who are nuts about
supplements and want others to buy them for you!
There’s more, but that’s enough for now.
Meanwhile, the new system is completely secure. Your order history and
personal information will be secure and completely confidential.
***PLEASE NOTE*** – As a Co-op member, we have already setup
your account in our new shopping cart. Once you start shopping, you will be
asked for a login and password. Your login is your email address and your
temporary password is “guido”.
Once you login, you can go the “Your Account” link in the right hand corner
where you can manage your account information. It is here where you can also
change your password, which we recommend you do at your earliest convenience.
Please feel free to send us any feedback or questions with respect to our new
shopping cart. Just email this kat at
guido@ourhealthcoop.com or our technical
team at support@ourhealthcoop.com.

Celebrating Linus Pauling's Birth & Life
This week, we celebrate the birthday of one of the Co-op’s favorite
scientists: Dr. Linus Pauling.
Born some 105 years ago, Dr. Linus Pauling passed on in 1994 at age 93.
FAST FACT: Linus Pauling outlived Dr. Robert Atkins by 21 years!
The public knows about Linus Pauling primarily for his famous advocacy of
vitamin C for immune and heart health. However, Pauling was most proud of his
research into the
nature of the chemical bond and his outspoken stance against
nuclear weapons testing and for
world peace. Pauling won Nobel Prizes for his
work in both areas.
During a speech in New York City at age 65, Pauling mentioned he hoped to
live another 15 years. Irwin Stone, a member of the audience, suggested that
large doses of vitamin C could be the key to a longer, healthier life.
Pauling and his wife, Ava Helen, started taking megadoses of vitamin C. Lo
and behold, Pauling lived another 28 years!
Intrigued by the promise of health from good nutrition and the use of
supplements, Pauling suggested a new scientific concept called “orthomolecular
medicine.”
FAST FACT: Orthomolecular medicine describes the practice of preventing and
treating disease by providing the body with optimal amounts of nutrients and
other substances, which are natural to the body.
In conjunction with Dr. Matthias Rath, Pauling published the
“Unified Theory
of Human Cardiovascular Disease”
The gist of the Unified Theory is that:
(1) Cholesterol build-up is the body’s natural response to malnutrition and
damaged blood vessels and
(2) Vitamin C, lysine, and proline are critical to
repairing damaged blood vessels, reducing cholesterol, and improving
cardiovascular health.
We even published a Co-op article on
Pauling and Rath’s Unified Theory
written by member Michael Ciell, R. Ph.
Mike is the chief pharmacist for the Foundational Health Center, which
specializes in alternative and nutritional therapies for patients with chronic
diseases.
Co-op's Less Than 'Six Degrees of Separation' From Pauling
Our marketing
director’s (Kelly’s) grandfather, Dr. John McKibbin, was a well-known family
physician and surgeon in Sacramento, California in the 1900s.
Kelly remembers her grandfather being a big admirer of Pauling’s work. In
fact, Dr. McKibbin attended many conferences where Pauling spoke and even had
the opportunity to chat with him on occasion.
Whatever Dr. McKibbin learned from Linus Pauling made its way into in his
family practice, back when Pauling was frequently considered a “quack” by
contemporaries in medicine. It’s a small world, we’re in good company, and that
old
“six degrees of separation”
theory is clearly in play!
We wanted to honor Linus Pauling on the anniversary of his birth this year,
for his work that is still so influential.

world peace, visit the

Institute website.
Heart Plus - The Pauling Formula For Better Heart Health

of whom discovered us through this product based on the Pauling formula.

Kat's Notes: Teri & Harley Wed
It’s official! Just days before Valentine’s Day, with friends and family
surrounding the happy couple – and no objections from the crowd - Teri and
Harley were formally joined as “husband and wife.”
With the honeymoon in the Florida Keys over, Teri and Harley have settled
into their new married lives. Teri is back to answering Co-op phones and emails.
Harley is constructing the offices at the Co-op’s new warehouse.
Teri says a big “thanks” to all who have showed such support and showered her
with congratulations.
I’m happy to encourage such things, as it keeps Teri in a great mood, so
thanks from this kat too! If you missed out before and want to write, here’s
Teri’s address:
teri@ourhealthcoop.com.
Co-op Anniversary Celebration Delayed
Yes, we didn’t celebrate our anniversary this year, but it’s not because we
forgot. Stay tuned, as we wanted to finish moving over to our
new shopping cart (and have
Teri back from her honeymoon) before running our annual sale.
More on this soon though!
Still purringly yours,
Guido
