People & Places We Love

At the Co-op, we have a beautiful opportunity to meet and work with truly wonderful people; and to discover a variety of interesting places. We’ve compiled a beginning list of some of our favorites below and will keep adding names as places as we go. If there’s a person, place, or organization of particular interest that you think other Co-op members would like to hear about, please drop Chris Harding, our Chief Community Officer, a line so that he can explore adding it to the website.

Dr. Hugo RodierIntegrative Health Specialist and Co-op Member

Hugo Rodier, M.D. is a recognized authority in nutritional and integrative medicine and psycho-neuro immunology. He has done extensive research in standard medical journals (surveying 150 journals each month) to document the benefits of natural therapies.

Dr. Rodier, a board-certified family practitioner, is Medical Director at the Pioneer Clinic — a leading integrative health center in Draper, Utah. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine and College of Nutrition, a member of the editorial board of the Utah Medical Association and is chairman of the Utah Medical Association’s Environmental Committee.

Here’s what Dr. Rodier said about the Co-op:

“My extensive research of the medical literature on the subject of nutrition and supplements, along with my significant exposure to nutraceutical companies, has prepared me to evaluate such companies. I place Our Health Co-op towards the top of the supplement industry for many reasons.

“The main one is the character and philosophy of the owners and managers. They are socially responsible and very conscientious of consumers who are economically disadvantaged. In an industry where mark-ups are the rule, Our Health Co-op stands out because of their lack of greed.”

“Second, the quality of their products is excellent. Many in the industry do not follow proper guidelines for quality assurance.”

“And lastly, their marketing philosophy is also geared to empowering consumers with information to gain control of their own health. They are committed to consumer self-reliance, and they are very personable in their approach.”

Michael P. Ciell, R. Ph. – Friend of Alternative Medicine and Co-op Member

Mike Ciell has practiced as a community pharmacist since 1992 and has extensively studied and lectured on alternative therapies. He has served as chief pharmacist for Eckerd’s National Medical Information Service since 2001. Currently, Mike is the chief pharmacist for the Foundational Health Center which specializes in alternative nutritional therapies for patients with chronic diseases.

Mike also spends much of his time researching orthomolecular medicine, what he calls “advanced cellular nutrition”. Recently, Mike wrote an Our Health Co-op article contrasting the mainstream heart disease “Lipid Theory” with the “Unified Theory,” developed by Linus Pauling (two-time Nobel laureate and Ph.D.) and Matthias Rath, M.D.

You can read Mike’s “Unified Theory” article here on our website at: Coronary Heart Disease & Linus Pauling – Heart Health Supplements – Vitamin C

Mike Ciell comments on Our Health Co-op:

“When I found your organization, I was amazed by your prices, but what really impressed me was that you were offering solid products. You didn’t have anything I would consider junk. Then I saw you posted lab tests online. Biochemistry is my thing, and I hadn’t seen this before.”

“What you stand for resonates with me deeply, and I am thrilled to be able to refer people to you. Many of the seniors I refer can’t say ‘thank you’ enough, as your products are far more affordable than they could have imagined. I thank you too and appreciate all you do for the community.”

Bill Henderson, Author & Alternative Cancer Treatment Researcher – We’re incredibly proud to be associated with best-selling author and our long-time Co-op friend, Bill Henderson. Bill is the author of Cancer-Free: Your Guide to Gentle, Non-Toxic Healing, a resource for those researching alternative methods in curing cancer. Bill also hosts a weekly web-talk radio show and sends a newsletter to thousands of followers world-wide. Bill began researching after losing his wife to ovarian cancer. He observed the many toxic treatments that his wife had to experience and was determined to learn more about gentler treatments, which he details in his book. Bill has helped thousands, and we couldn’t be happier to support his followers with quality products.

Richard Smithee – Founder Pasaporte a la Salud (Passport to Health)

Richard’s clinic offers acupuncture, chiropractic treatment, and healing services for a wide range of health issues including cancer, fertility, menopause, and pain management. Richard has been offering several OHC products to his patients and customers for years now and appreciates the low prices and great quality.

Places & Organizations We Love

Linus Pauling Institute – We love the wealth of research and resourcefulness that is the Linus Pauling Institute (LPI). LPI was co-founded in 1973 by Linus Pauling, Ph.D., the only individual ever to win two unshared Nobel Prizes (Chemistry, 1954; Peace, 1962). LPI is dedicated to determining the function and role of vitamins, essential minerals and phytochemicals in promoting optimum health and preventing or treating disease. LPI is also committed to researching the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in human health and disease, and the protective effects of dietary factors with antioxidant or anti-inflammatory properties.

Hippocrates Health Institute – Five decades ago, Ann Wigmore, visionary and humanitarian, founded a concept based on the historic wisdom of our Father of Medicine – Hippocrates“Let Food Be Thy Medicine.” Cindy spent three weeks at Hippocrates Health Institute in the fall of 2008 after starting to experience severe allergy and auto-immune symptoms. The Hippocrates philosophy is founded on the belief that a vegan, living, enzyme-rich diet — complemented by exercise, positive thinking and non-invasive therapies — are integral to optimum health.

Big Cat Rescue Center – With a big commitment to care for all the many big cats who need homes and a safe place to exist, the Big Cat Rescue Center is nothing short of amazing.

ASPCA – The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. ‘Nuff said? Why wouldn’t this be one of our favorite places? The ASPCA works to rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws and share resources with shelters nationwide. The ASPCA was the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. Our mission, as stated by our founder, Henry Bergh, in 1866, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.” The ASPCA is also an excellent resource for information on supporting your local shelter community, pet care, and much more.
