Greetings [[firstname]],
Turmeric - Supporting Blood Flow & More through Nitric Oxide Production
Turmeric, a spice often used in curry, has been making a lot of headlines
lately -- not just in recipes either. Turmeric belongs to the ginger family, and
can be found in exotic recipes and herbal remedies alike.
Turmeric's most common active components, curcuminoids, offer strong
antioxidant activity, tissue comfort support, and immune boosting benefits.
More specifically, curcuminoids promote the body's production of its most
powerful antioxidant, glutathione. Glutathione acts to protect cells from
damage, enhance immune system response, and aid the liver in detoxifying harmful
substances.
Tumeric Boosting Brain & Immune Health
Most recently, tumeric has been shown to aid the immune system in clearing
out Alzheimer's-related plaque on the brain.
More specifically, researchers from the David Geffen School of Medicine and
the Human BioMolecular Research Institute, found that a chemical called
bisdemethoxycurcumin, found in curcuminoids, boosted immune cells called
macrophages to clear amyloid beta -- the protein responsible for
Alzheimer's-related brain plaques.
This study both holds importance both in investigating tumeric's specific
role in spurring the immune system, and also the broader implications of how the
immune system's health influencing Alzheimer's disease.
Turmeric: Supporting Joint and Tissue Comfort, Heart Health & More
Recent studies also show curcuminoids and other curcuma rhizomes may help
support joint comfort and combat muscle fatigue, by suppressing pro-inflammatory
cytokines, cyclooxygenase-2, prostoglandins, and leukotriens.
Curcuminoids have also shown to promote heart health by inhibiting
platelet-activating factor, and thus platelet aggregation which can lead to
deadly clots.
Lastly, tumeric and curcuminoids are being studied in conjunction with the
immune system and cancer, gastrointestinal comfort, and HIV.
You can find a hefty dose of tumeric, along with boswellia and MSM, in our
Arthro 3.
