Greetings

Ginseng, Cranberry &
Lecithin
Panax Ginseng - Ancient Herbal Adaptogen
We're discounting Panax Ginseng
because we think it's an amazing herb that everyone should know more about and
consider taking -- largely because of its
adaptogenic qualities.
This means herbs like ginseng
helps your body adapt to stressors -- whether from chemical, biological,
physical, or emotional triggers.
Adaptogens have a normalizing
effect on the body and are capable of either toning down the activity of
hyper-functioning systems or strengthening the activity of hypo-functioning
systems."
Panax ginseng is known for
supporting improved energy, circulation, cardiovascular health, immune health,
as well as central nervous system and healthy sexual function.
Dr. Rodier regularly recommends
the Panax version of ginseng to his patients, and he was one of the big mouths
clamoring for the Co-op to carry this ancient herb.

Cranberry Concentrate -
Antimicrobial, Anti-Bacterial Booster
Cranberry's reputation
generally hinges on antibacterial urinary tract support, especially for women
prone to urinary tract infections. However,
cranberry's
health benefits don't stop there.
Cranberries are also a source
of
polyphenol antioxidants, along with other promising phytochemicals being
evaluated for cardiovascular and immune system health as well for anti-cancer
activity.

Soy Lecithin - Ally for Brain & Cell Health
Lecithin, with its
concentration of
phosphatidylcholine, is known a for supporting brain health, as it boosts
production of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter in the central
nervous system. Lecithin also enables antioxidants to cross the
blood/brain barrier, thus preventing premature aging of the brain and nervous
system.
Lecithin is also well known for
its role in fat emulsification, preventing fat deposits and plaque aggregation
(its link to heart health benefits).
However, at the Co-op, we added
our Soy Lecithin product because of our commitment to general cellular health,
as lecithin is a core part of each cell's membrane and is critical to
cellular detoxification.
According to
Dr.
Jim Wright, former chief of the exercise science branch of the U.S. Army
Fitness School:
"Life occurs as a result
of cell membranes, which control what goes in and out of cells. A shortage
of lecithin equals faulty cell membranes, which can allow toxic materials or
waste products to accumulate in your cells, while at the same time barring
substances that are crucial for cellular repair and healing, such as water,
protein and nutrients."
So, whether you want to protect
your gray matter, your old ticker, or your little cells, you may want to add
lecithin into your daily routine!
If you're in the camp with soy
concerns, read
Dr.
Rodier's comments on the soy controversy.

All Shipping Options Remain -
Flat-Rate Best for Larger Orders!
This kat has some explaining to do. Last week we announced a $9.95 flat-rate shipping
option for all U.S. orders.
Some folks took this to mean all orders now cost $9.95 to ship, and
that cheaper shipping options for small orders had gone away.
NOT SO! All shipping options are still available,
from the cheap first-class mail to the radically expensive overnight delivery.
The $9.95 flat-rate is merely a bonus to those who make large orders and want
to save a few bucks on shipping! Hey, who can blame 'em?
Constant Health: Free Shipping Reminder
We're offering
free shipping
on Constant Health (you save about $8-$9 for one jar of Constant Health). So if
you've yet to try this new immune/intestinal/detox function formula, now is your chanceto
save on shipping.
And, if you're already a fan of Constant Health, the
Constant

Sleep: It May Just Save Your
Life!
To some, sleep is a necessary evil. To others sleep is an all-too-short bliss-fest.
However you see it, sleep is more important to your health than you
might think.
If you're one of the 70 million Americans not getting adequate sleep,
research shows you may be doing more than spending a lot on coffee. Your golden
years may be at risk.
In 1965, Americans averaged 8.5 hours of sleep nightly. Americans now sleep
on average less than 7 hours a night, and many get as little as 5 or 6 hours.
These trends are great for
Starbucks, but not so great for you.
Skimping on your zzz's impacts your work, your relationships, and
especially your health.
Sleep deprivation is linked to serious health conditions like:
Cancer: Studies show night workers are more prone to breast and colon
cancer, likely due to lower levels of melatonin. Melatonin is believed to protect against cancer by
positively affecting
levels of other hormones, such as estrogen.
Heart Disease: Scientists postulate chronic sleep
deprivation can send the body into high alert, increasing stress hormones,
blood pressure, and inflammation markers -- all major factors in heart disease.
Obesity: Sleepless nights can disrupt your metabolism and the hormones used to
regulate your appetite. Feeling drowsy can also impede your energy for working out
and staying active.
Impaired Immune Function: Not giving your system proper
time to rest and restore impacts proper immune function, allowing viruses
and other bugs to make mischief more easily.
Clearly fair members, this sleep stuff is serious business. So what makes
"sawing logs" so hard?
According to The Better
Sleep Council, 65% of Americans are losing sleep due to
stress. Long days, late dinners, and bedrooms buzzing with televisions, laptops, and
cell phones do little for restful sleep.
In the elderly, over half of men and women report at least one major
sleep complaint (disturbed sleep, waking too early, etc.).
So, what's a poor bleary-eyed human to do?
Supplements to Aid Your Zzzz's:
More than 40 million Americans now use
prescription insomnia drugs to help them get a good night’s sleep. Sigh...looks
like another case of humans going with the quick-fix route.
Here are a few natural alternatives you might try
before turning to sleeping pills, which can be
quite dangerous:
Melatonin:
Melatonin's primary role is to regulate the body's circadian rhythm,
endocrine secretions, and sleep patterns. Melatonin is also a powerful
antioxidant, shown to be particularly powerful against cancer cells.
P.S. If you haven't heard, melatonin levels
begin to decline with age, so if you're over 40 (you know who you are),
consider taking this stuff as a cheap way to rest easy and protect against
evil free radicals.
B Vitamins:
Known to support healthy moods, B vitamins also help combat that nasty
stress keeping so many folks tossing and turning at night.
B vitamins are essential ingredients for
proper functioning of several neurotransmitters, including dopamine, which
is necessary to experience pleasure (I know, now you're paying
attention, eh?).
As a bonus, B vitamins are powerful allies in
supporting cardiovascular health!
HGH Enhancer:
Our HGH Enhancer contains GABA -- a favorite
among many of our senior members for supporting restful sleep.
Aside from helping to stimulate growth hormone
and prolactin, GABA also helps to calm the nervous system. It is considered
a natural tranquilizer.
Health in the News
'Til next time, fair members!
Still purringly yours,
