SKUNKED IN PARK CITYThis kat never ceases to be amazed by the commotion that little things can create in human lives. I’ve now heard the story from several angles, and it sounds very different depending on who is doing the talking. It wasn’t a good idea to get too near Cindy on Saturday morning. Around 1:30 a.m. she shared how she awoke to the unmistakable musk of skunk on the wind (she’s known for having a good sniffer, so this was not a pretty awakening). It wasn’t long before Cindy discovered that the little skunk burrow beneath the front steps was indeed the epicenter of a truly keel-over-in-your-tracks odor. Opening the door to the crawl space beneath the house provoked a wail that only a lonely coyote could really appreciate. Cindy and Steve were supposed to go away on a little R&R vacation. Searches on the Internet were not encouraging, with some folks writing about the smell lingering for weeks or even months. With little sleep under their belts and a call placed to a skunk mitigation expert, Cindy and Steve decided to head out on their trip anyway, paying the kid next door extra to play with their sissy Siamese under the, er, circumstances. Teri and Stephen in Florida could only see the humor in the little misadventure in Park City and clamored for me to write about it. Cindy wasn’t amused, preferring to forget about it for as long as possible. She got over-ruled this time (don’t worry about her, she overrules us ALL the time). So, if you must write, please write to moi, as I have a far better sense of humor than Cindy does about this particular incident. Or, write to Teri, who empathizes, but trust me, has been cracking up about it when Cindy’s not in earshot. O-k, so you want a moral to the story? One could say the moral to this story is about “not messing with Mother Nature” or “not mixing city folks with country living.” However, fair members, these would be cliché ways of viewing the situation. Instead, this kat sees it all a little differently. The moral of the story is that life keeps changing and stuff happens and no matter how much you humans try to be prepared and make the “right” decisions, you will always encounter surprises. You could afford to take a lesson from your favorite feline friends, who know a little more about landing on their feet, no matter what happens. ^..^
