NOTES FROM THE KAT

In this Issue:

Greetings [[firstname]],

Members Ask: How Are "We" Doing?

Teri's been receiving calls from members asking "How are 'we' doing?" Code for: how is the Co-op weathering the ongoing economic storm?

Fortunately, our Chief Operations Officer, Stephen--who keeps the girls from spending frivolously--quietly minds the bottom line with a frugal streak that runs both wide and deep.

Stephen's financial management ensures a healthy stash of cash (we're not a debt-driven company, thankfully).  Our manufacturers and vendors love to work with us, as we always pay our bills on time and never leave them in the lurch, as so many small businesses sometimes do.

So fair members, rest assured, the Co-op is going strong.

We must give special thanks to all of you, who help us spread the word about our great products and quality and prices!

Speaking of prices, ahem, I would like to point out that this kat's Co-op has held the line on most of our prices for 7 full years, and even dropped prices in a few instances.  ^..^

You see, as we grow and serve more new members, we can get  better deals on raw materials and pass the savings along to y'all.

So please keep sending your friends and family our way!

Bill Henderson Endorses Constant Health & Soothing Greens

We're incredibly proud to be associated with best-selling author and our long-time Co-op friend, Bill Henderson, who hosts a weekly web-talk radio show.

Based on Bill's suggestions for his many cancer patients, our new Constant Health and Soothing Greens drink mixes are completely sugar free.

Once in stock, we sent Bill samples of the new Constant Health formula along with our new Soothing Greens and Immune Health formulas to get his opinions, which he shares quite graciously below (thanks Bill!).

Bill Henderson on Constant Health & Soothing Greens

"My wife, Terry, and I have been taking the Constant Health, Soothing Greens, and Immune Health for about three weeks now. Without chronic conditions to correct, we can surely say that they seem to have made us feel more energetic and healthy.

I have tried adding the Constant Health and Soothing Greens powders to the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil "smoothie" I make for breakfast every morning. They blend well and I find I have no hunger for about 8 hours after drinking the smoothie.

I wish you well with these fine products. I will certainly mention them on my web talk radio show and urge people to try them."

Success Story from Bill Henderson Fan

Teri recently got a call from one of Bill Henderson's fans, and his story was so heart-warming, we just had to share it.

James Hyles was diagnosed in June 2008 with prostate cancer. His test results scored 8 on the Gleason scale, which is interpreted to mean that the cancer will likely spread to other parts of the body.

James turned down all his oncologist's treatment recommendations, opting instead to use Bill Henderson's book as his healing bible. James followed Bill's dietary and supplement protocols religiously.

The good news?  A blood test in February 2009 showed James to be completely cancer free.

We couldn't be happier than when we hear stories like those from James.

Blessings to Bill and to all those whom he continues to help each day and around the world.

Processed Foods, Waistline Troubles, Bathing Suits & What to Do!

Bathing suit season is fast-approaching, and you may be trying to remove excess pudge brought on by too many winter treats.

No surprise, processed foods can be particularly troublesome for your waistline, so heed these ten good reasons to stay away from processed foods if you want to squeeze into your summer shorts.

Top Reasons to Ditch Processed Foods to Reduce Weight

  1. Processed foods don't lead to satiation and thus lead to overeating. Processing removes vital nutrients, like fiber, water, and phytonutrients, and thus reduce feelings of satiation from these denatured foods.

  2. Processed foods artificially stimulate dopamine, which plays a role in addiction. With extra dopamine circulating, you feel good when you eat processed (junk) foods. Craving  the pleasurable feelings associated with processed foods creates genuine food addictions.

  3. High fructose corn syrup linked to obesity. Regular sugar or glucose is broken down nicely in the digestive tract and used for energy by cells.  In contrast, high fructose corn syrup goes directly to the liver, triggers signals to store fat and slow down fat burning, and then leads to unhealthy  triglyceride levels and "bad" cholesterol build-up.

  4. Excitotoxins like MSG and aspartame linked to obesity. MSG is the chemical of choice for creating obese animal subjects in laboratory experiments. In fact, MSG stimulates the pancreas to triple its output of insulin, with ensuing huge drops in blood sugar creating lethargy and hunger, both of which lead to overeating.  Aspartame use, in addition to to being carcinogenic, is linked to greater weight gain than use of regular sugar. Studies have shown, for example, that for every diet soda ingested each day, the risk of being overweight goes up a whopping 41%.  Apparently trying to fool the body with fake sugars makes the body retaliate with bigger cravings for more calories!

  5. Processed foods feed unfriendly bacteria, yeast, and fungi, which are linked to cravings and obesity. As bad bacteria, yeast, and fungi overtake friendly bacteria in the intestines, fierce cravings for carbohydrates and sugars kick in to feed the bad guys. Friendly bacteria, in contrast, thrive on whole foods with plenty of fiber.

  6. Processed foods are part of “eating on the run” and foul up appetite and digestion. Multitasking (eating while trying to do something else that requires concentration) causes people to lose touch with their natural appetite and sense of satiation. Eating fast food in a hurry while doing something else also sends the wrong signals to the digestive system, which needs rest to digest properly.

Ah, the old adage, "don't mess with Mother Nature" has never been more true.  ^..^

Co-op Products to Help Your Waist Line

  • Fiber Fit - Fiber helps fill your belly and slow  digestion without adding extra calories.

  • Soothing Greens - In addition to a big dose of fiber and protein for satiation, Soothing Greens provides powder-stable probiotics (friendly bacteria) to fight the bad guys (and their nasty sugar cravings).

  • Constant Health - Constant Health also has a big dose of protein and fiber to satisfy your appetite for hours while providing dense nutrition to heal the gut.

  • Cinnamon - Cinnamon slows digestion and thus insulin surges by the pancreas.

  • Green Tea Extract - Green tea extract supports thermogenic activity in the body, which increases heat and speeds up metabolism. Green tea extract has shown to increase energy efficiency, exercise capacity, and fat-burning potential, all beyond the levels that would be explained by its low caffeine content!

  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) - CLA has shown to support the development of lean muscle mass and loss of fat when combined with other weight loss efforts.

P.S. If you're looking for a more rigorous diet with a personal touch of support, send Teri a note requesting information on the Ideal Protein wellness program.

Health in the News

  • Flax in diet means fewer tumors. New research from South Dakota State University offers evidence that including flax in the diet may help prevent colorectal tumors or keep tumors from growing as quickly when they do form.

  • Heavy breathing and air quality. As a country, we're used to the idea that air pollution is bad for our health. What hasn't really sunk in yet is the fact that the most problematic air we encounter is often found not outdoors, but inside the home.

'Til next time, fair members!

Still purringly yours,

Guido
