Greetings
[[firstname]],
Dr. Rodier on Soy Lecithin & Your Health
Soy has long garnered some negative attention, and this kat is here to shed
some light on soy's misinformation.
I chatted with Dr. Rodier about soy, and he said:
"Soy has been shown through extensive modern research that the old, worn
out fears of hormonal disruption through soy are not supported by evidence ("Fifth
International Symposium on the role of Soy in Preventing and Treating
Chronic Disease," Orlando, Florida, 2003. Loma Linda University. Published
in J. Nutrition 2004;134:1205s).
Soy increases the ability of the liver and intestines to process
micronutrients that may regulate hormonal function. Thus, claims that soy
may disrupt normal body functions are simply erroneous.
Soy has, in fact, been shown to strengthen bones, reduce allergies and
lower blood pressure and cholesterol. It has also been shown to reduce the
risk of cancer, including prostate and breast cancer.
In my opinion, any attempt to demonize soy may be traced to the dairy and
pharmaceutical industries who are losing significant revenues to soy, a
natural crop that has been consumed with no ill effects in Asia for millenia
("Estimated asian adult soy protein and isoflavones intakes," J.
Nutrition and Cancer 2006;55:1)."
Soy Lecithin: Good
for Cell Membranes & More
As far as lecithin is concerned, Dr.
Rodier had a few comments on this essential phospholipid:
"Lecithin oil helps support
healthy cell membranes, which starts to make everything easier as your cells
communicate better.
Lecithin is a great source of
phosphatidylcholine, which is important for brain cell membranes in
particular. And, studies on lecithin have shown promise for those with
Alzheimer's disease.
Studies have been done on the
relationship of lecithin with cholesterol. Lecithin helps the liver to
process cholesterol, thereby working to keep unwanted increases in
cholesterol serum levels."
