In this Issue:
Greetings,
Beware Too Much Sun & Reduce Melanoma Risk!
While sunbathing is great for felines in your world, UV radiation can be
damaging to skin. Only 20 years ago, the rate of melanoma in Caucasians was 1 in
400. The rate has increased dramatically to 1 in 32. And, if you have fair or
ruddy complexion or red hair, your risk rises to 1 in 10. Yikes, Cindy's in
trouble.
Teri had a major scare with melanoma at the age of 21, with what looked like
a “tick” on the back of her leg ultimately being a malignant melanoma. Her
physician cut out a large chunk of the back of her leg, scraping all the way to
her muscle. He said if she had waited, there would have been no leg to save.
In fact, melanoma rates are increasing faster than HIV infections, and at a rate
that medical professionals consider “epidemic” in nature. According to a
University of Rochester health advisory:
“Most new melanoma patients have no family history of the disease; it can
strike anyone regardless of health, physical condition, or skin complexion. On
the average, there is a melanoma death in the U.S. almost every hour.”
Unfortunately, even one sun burn can increase your lifetime risk of melanoma.

The good news is that melanoma can be cured – easily – if it is detected and
treated early.
Do your skin a favor and have it checked out, top to bottom! Tell
your doc that “the kat sent you!” ^..^
Health in the News
Cindy and Steve have been hosting 4th of July parties for the past six years.
This year, they’re having their party on July 7th.
It seems their friends like
to stay up dancing well past midnight, and RSVPs were heading south if the party
were to be on July 4th (a so-called “school night”).
Felines aren’t so interested in the big bang of fireworks nights, but a house
full of humans dancing to cranked up music is no picnic either.
This kat isn’t invited so it’s not exactly a problem, but Damon and Diva may see
it differently that night.
Be well this 4th of July and through the summer! ^..^
Still purringly yours,
Guido
