New Product: Beta Glucan, Immune Superpower
Ever since Bill Henderson began touting the benefits of beta glucan
in
Cancer Free: Your
Guide to Non-Toxic Healing, the Co-op's
COO, Stephen, has been scouring the planet for just the right source
of baker’s yeast-based beta-1, 3D glucan.
Well, he found it, and the ever-scrupulous Dr. Dinesh Patel has
given the Co-op’s Beta Glucan his
stamp of
approval.
If you're unfamiliar with the benefits
of beta glucan, get ready for a shower of good reasons to check it out.
A true utility player, beta glucan protects your heart, modulates
blood sugar, activates your immune systems, battles cancer cells, and leaps tall
buildings in a single bound - well, almost. Seldom has one supplement done so
much for so many! Join us in welcoming
Beta
Glucan to the Co-op line-up.
A Yeast-Based Formula for Maximum Immune Benefit
Why yeast based, you ask? It's simple, insolubility. Unlike soluble
sources like mushrooms and oats, insoluble, yeast-based beta glucan is able to
pass through your stomach and small intestine into your lymphatic system.
In other words, yeast-based beta glucan doesn’t get absorbed along
the way and is fully potent and ready to fight when and where it’s needed most.
For example, beta glucan modulates the macrophage
and facilitates phagocytosis, which translates to the ability to engulf, or
‘swallow,’ foreign cells and particles, including cancer cells.
Beta Glucan Supports Cancer Patients and Overall Immunity
Beta glucan is perhaps best known for supporting
cancer patients, who have long turned to holistic and alternative medical
treatments to combat their disease -- either as an alternative to traditional
approaches or as a complement.
No matter what treatment you opt for, beta glucan
should be in the equation. The Journal of
Clinical Cancer Research reported in September 2008 that beta glucan
is well-tolerated and safe in conjunction with chemotherapy and radiation.
Additionally,
Cancer Research, reported University of Louisville researchers found
that the a combination of yeast-based Beta Glucan with other anti-tumor
therapies improved the long –time survival rates of animals with previously
resistant tumors.
Indeed, there are hundreds of studies on beta
glucan’s positive contribution in the fight against a range of different cancers
including breast, liver, lung, gastric, and colorectal.
However, beta glucan fights more than just cancer
cells. From the common cold, fungi, and parasites to more serious ailments such
as Swine Flu, beta glucan is among your best allies.
For example, did you know that hospital
infections kill more people each year than AIDS, breast cancer, and automobile
accidents combined?! If you require surgery, one of your biggest risks is
post-surgical infection.
In human clinical trials, injectable beta glucan
reduced the risk of serious post-operative infections by a whopping 39%.

Glucan has to offer, just have a look at the product page to learn

Support Breast
Cancer Walk, Donate in Support or Memory of Loved Ones
October is Breast
Cancer Awareness Month and the Co-op will be taking several
opportunities to support this important cause all month long.
First up, Stephen's wife, Kelly, is
Vice Chair of the
Palm Beach Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk this year, and is
inviting members near and far to support the cause.
This kat's brief chat with Kelly
will give you all the details, including how to donate a tribute certificate in
honor of your favorite survivor or in memory of a lost loved one.
OHC: What's the scoop on the
Breast Cancer Society and this year's annual walk?
Kelly: The theme this year
is "A world without cancer is a world with more birthdays." The aim of the walk
is really to celebrate life and generate energy for all the participants, but we
still want to honor and remember those who are no longer with us, too.
OHC: Speaking of honoring, what
are these tribute certificates and how do they work?
Kelly: I created these pink
ribbons out of plaster, and for $1, you can fill our a donation certificate in
your loved one's honor. If you're local, you can come down to the walk and pin
the certificate on yourself. If you're an out-of-towner, I'll pin the
certificate on for you. You can
donate your $1 through the Co-op.
OHC: Let's talk more about
donations and the Breast Cancer Society.
Kelly: It's really pretty
amazing. This year $340 million dollars have already been raised to support
cancer research. It's no surprise why. This organization has more Nobel
laureates than any other, and targets recent graduates with fresh ideas for many
of their grant awards to keep things fresh and innovative. I am really proud to
be supporting them.
OHC: How did you get involved in
these breast cancer walks anyway?
Kelly: I'll do just about
anything to help this cause. I have a feeling the breast cancer gene runs in my
family. My aunt was diagnosed a few years ago, which is why I did my first walk.
Then the dean of the college I was
working with was diagnosed two years ago, so I set up a team for the walk. This
year a good friend of mine acted as the Chair of the Palm Beach Walk committee.
She invited me to vice chair on the contingency that next year I would have to
chair. I've never chaired anything of this magnitude, but I told her I'd do it.
I'm glad I did because she's been an incredible mentor and such a pleasure to
work with. It's been a lot of work but next year is going to be a blast!
OHC: So great. Lastly, rumor has
it you have an interesting personal commitment for Breast Cancer Awareness
Month.
Kelly: I committed to
wearing pink every day this month. It started out as something silly but so many
people liked it that now I have to do it. The funny thing is that when I did an
inventory of my pink clothes, I had plenty to last me the month. I was tempted
to paint the dog pink, too, but Stephen was beyond opposed to the idea. I don't
think Tito (the dog) would have minded at all!

Good luck to Kelly for the big walk
next Saturday, October 17th. If you'd like to donate to Kelly's team, The
Princess Partners, you can do so
here.
