Greetings,
Health Nuggets from Men's Health
It’s a little known fact that our COO Stephen is an avid reader of
Men’s
Health Magazine by Rodale Press.
Lucky for you, fair members, Stephen keeps his eye out for news tidbits to
pass along for your benefit. Here are a few he picked out:
1. Magnesium: The Miracle Mineral
“Magnesium could help you live longer. In an 18-year study, French
researchers determined that men with the highest blood levels of the mineral
have a 40 percent lower risk of early death than those with the lowest levels.
The researchers think this could be because low magnesium levels are associated
with greater inflammation, which is linked to heart disease and cancer.
The kicker? Fifty-six percent of the population doesn’t consume an adequate
amount of the mineral. To boost your intake, snack on roasted pumpkin seeds,
which contain 150 milligrams of magnesium per ounce—about half the amount you
need daily.”
Fast Facts: Interestingly, this is only about 1/8 of the 1000mg
amount Dr. Rodier recommends to most of his patients. And, don’t forget the C!
Vitamin C makes magnesium more bioavailable in the body.

2. More Cancer by the Teaspoon?
“Sweet drinks may sour your health. Swedish scientists found that regularly
downing sugar could lead to pancreatic cancer. When the researchers tracked the
diets of more than 77,000 people for 8 years, they determined that those who
drank two or more soft drinks a day were 90 percent more likely to develop the
disease than those who had less.
What’s more, the scientists also found that people who added a total of 5
teaspoons of sugar to coffee, tea, or cereal daily were at a 70 percent greater
risk of pancreatic cancer.”
3. Defend Your DNA with Multi-Vitamins
“Multivitamins may protect you from cancer, say researchers at the University
of California at Berkeley. When scientists starved human cells of vitamins and
minerals, also known as micronutrients, the resulting effect was DNA damage-a
common culprit in deadly diseases like cancer.
And even though most people’s diets aren’t dangerously deficient in vitamins
and minerals, intakes are typically inadequate. The result is that your boy’s
stores of micronutrients are used for immediate needs instead of repairing
damaged DNA, which would help preserve long-term health, says study author Bruce
Ames, Ph.D.”

4. Disease-Proof Your Heart and Mind
“To drastically reduce your risk of future health problems, you need 3.5
grams of omega-3 fatty acids daily, according to scientists at the National
Institutes of Health. The researchers made this determination when they
calculated that 40 percent of mortatlity from heart disease and 95 percent of
depression could be attributed to deficiencies in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
and cocosahexaenoic acid (DHA), the omega-3 fatty acids primarily found in
seafood.
These healthy fats reduce the inflammation associated with heart disease and
may also cultivate the production of serotonin and dopamine, ‘feel good’
neurotransmitters that can relieve and prevent depression, says study author
Joseph Hibbeln, M.D.”

Kat's Notes - "Anti-TOIL Diet" Gaining
Steam at the Co-op
Meanwhile, this kat’s been hearing about Donnaree – our best-ever shipping
associate – and her conversations with Dr. Rodier about her “excess platelet”
blood problems, chronic constipation, lack of energy, and other physical
complaints.
Dr. Rodier assessed a poor diet with excess refined sugars and cellular
“TOIL” (cellular toxicity, oxidation, inflammation, and lack of nutrients) as
the unsurprising culprit behind Donnaree’s problems.
Donnaree took the plunge and went on Dr. Rodier’s strict cellular health and
detoxification diet (elimination of all refined foods and sugars with an
emphasis on lean meats, eggs, fresh vegetables, and nuts). Yep, you read that
right. No fruits. No legumes. And, particularly, no grains.
The first two weeks are very strict, and then Dr. Rodier allows inclusion of
fresh fruits over the next two weeks, legumes over the third two weeks, and then
testing of grains after that.
Within a couple of weeks, Donnaree had more energy, better lab results, no
more constipation, and, as a bonus, lost enough weight to make her clothes
looser! She’s motivated to stay on the extended diet now.
Teri is curious about Donnaree’s recipes, as Donnaree makes Dr. Rodier’s diet
much more exciting than Teri ever could imagine doing so on her own.
Donnaree will be sharing some of her recipes in our next newsletter. Stay
tuned!
Well, the humans around here are all getting smarter about their diets,
thanks to Dr. Rodier. The next one to fold inevitably will be Stephen. ^..^
Meanwhile, don't forget to read the latest in
Dr. Rodier's blog!
Still purringly yours,
Guido
