Meow,
Taurine & Our Eye Protection Formula
It seems like questions come in groups. The question that has been popping up
lately is “would you consider carrying taurine?”
As a matter of fact, our
Eye Protection
formula has a significant dose of taurine (400mg) (along with antioxidants
lutein, zeaxanthin, and bilberry).
Taurine is an amino acid that is found in high amounts in the retina, and
dietary deficiencies can affect eyesight long-term.
Granted, lutein gets all the great press for eye health, while taurine is
known more for its cardiovascular, blood pressure, and even neuroprotective
(Alzheimer’s) benefits.
However, studies have shown that taurine protects against retinal
degeneration, generally, and, more specifically, has been shown to protect
against cataracts in diabetic rats.
Fast Facts: Many of the studies on taurine have been done on cats,
since felines cannot produce taurine, but must consume taurine in their diets.
In cats, when the retina becomes depleted of taurine, changes in photoreceptor
cells begin to appear, and further depletion can result in permanent retinal
degeneration.
Eye Health Tip: If you’re thinking about eye health, you should
also include an antioxidant formula -- rich in vitamins A, E, C, zinc, and
selenium (like our
Sam’s Advanced
Antioxidant Plus D) -- for optimum eye protection.
Teri’s Tip: When Teri makes her morning soy shake, she blends
in the contents of six
Fiber Fit
capsules, one Coenzyme Q-10 capsule (yes, she has the old veg cap formula), and
one Eye Protection
capsule for good measure.
Monthly Co-op Articles in BoomerTimes!
South Florida definitely has our audience – in big numbers. So, we decided to
gamble and advertise in a little magazine called
BoomerTimes &
SeniorLife, which is distributed all across South Florida.
Anita Finley, the editor of BoomerTimes, interviewed
Cindy
carefully before inviting us to advertise, because her readers often ask her
whether a new advertiser is “for real.”
Also, with the advertisement comes monthly articles and monthly radio
interviews, so Anita wanted quality information going to her subscribers.
Alas, the magazine wasn’t interested in a kat with a byline. Sigh.
Cindy focused on “quality” in the supplements industry (no surprise) in her
August
article.
For
September, her article summarizes what you’ve been reading of late about
the role of Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil) in fighting inflammation.
We’ll be posting Cindy’s BoomerTimes articles on our web site, so take
a look at the beginning of each month for her latest articles:
