Why the ALS Association you ask?
Turns out Stephen’s wife Kelly lost a colleague to ALS and has been
supporting the ALS Association ever since.
Here in Kelly’s words:
“In 2003, one of my co-workers, Tina Rodriguez,
was diagnosed with ALS. My employer, knowing that I was committed to
volunteerism, asked me to create a walk team for the upcoming Walk to D'Feet
ALS in Jupiter, FL. I readily agreed. I was so touched by the people I met
and that I have continued to support the walk every year since. Tina has
since passed away, but my commitment to ALS remains steadfast.
I've been an avid pageant competitor during the
last several years and have had the opportunity to hold several local,
state, and national titles. I have enjoyed using my title to help spread the
message of raising funds to find a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease. I've
stuffed walker packets, attended kick-off events, sold bracelets and raffle
tickets at Roger Dean Stadium, and recruited volunteers at the college where
I work.
I know that someone's dollar will find a cure.
My goal is to raise as many dollars as possible until we reach that goal.
Each year that I participate in the walk, I see people living with ALS whose
disease has progressed since the previous year and it breaks my heart. At
some point those friends aren't at the next walk, and their friends and
families walk in their memory. Please join me in raising money to find a
cure. My friends need your help!”
ALS – FAST FACTS ABOUT A FATAL DISEASE
If you’re not familiar with the treacherous ALS (amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, it is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular
disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and
breathe.
-
The life expectancy of a person with ALS
averages two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
-
Every 90 minutes a person is diagnosed
with ALS, and every 90 minutes another person dies of ALS.
-
ALS can strike anyone at anytime. The
disease knows no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries.

How Safe is Your Sweetener?
Know aspartame
isn't the answer, but don't know where to turn to satisfy your sweet tooth?
Dr. Rodier reviews artificial and
natural sweeteners for their pros and cons to your health and taste-buds.

Diet Soda also Makes You Gain Weight - A Lesson in
Sweeteners

"Soda pop is truly an addiction in this country. Many will violently object
to my use of the word “addiction,” which I take as proof I am barking up the
right tree. The purveyors of this poison have convinced people that “diet
pop,” sweetened with artificial molecules is not associated with weight
gain.
Well, they have been lying all along, a fact that has been discussed in many
publications, but none as reputable as the recent article in the JAMA, May
14th, 2008, page 2137."

This kat has been overhearing the words of a very
cranky, curmudgeonly character lately. His name is Marc and he's helping the
Salt Lake City office on the marketing front these days.
While Marc has already won Teri's devotion with his
quick wit, he's also a bit of a cynic when it comes to relationships.
Here's a line that captures both of those qualities.
"Marriage is the death of romance. Divorce is the
death of finance."
