Resveratrol Now Available!
Scads of our fair members have asked if the Co-op would carry resveratrol as a stand-alone product (prior to now resveratrol was only found in our Immune Health formula). And, Dr. Hugo Rodier has asked us to carry resveratrol for years.
We are happy to announce that, after our customary raw materials evaluation and independent laboratory testing, our new Resveratrol is now available at an everyday low Co-op price of $7.95 for 30 capsules (250 mg each).
Heart Health. Scientists became interested in exploring potential health benefits of resveratrol in 1992 when its presence was first reported in red wine, leading to speculation that resveratrol might help explain what was referred to as the “French Paradox” (so named, because the incidence of coronary heart disease is relatively low in southern France despite high dietary intake of saturated fats).
How might resveratrol help maintain heart health? One of the earliest events in the development of atherosclerosis is the recruitment of inflammatory white blood cells from the blood to the arterial wall by vascular cell adhesion molecules. Resveratrol has been found to inhibit the expression of adhesion molecules in cultured endothelial cells.
Longevity. Researchers determined in an additional study that resveratrol counteracted the detrimental effects of a high-fat diet in mice, extending the lifespan of the mice on a high-calorie diet to that of mice on a standard diet.
Note: You'll be happy to know that the Co-op's formulation of Resveratrol has been purified to contain less than 2% emodin. (Emodin levels can reach 5% to 10% in resveratrol derived from Polygonum cuspidatum. That much emodin in higher dose resveratrol can lead to stomach upset and diarrhea and so we've purified the product further for your overall comfort and well-being).
