Garlic and Cayenne for Heart Health - $1.00 Off
Some call Garlic and Cayenne the dynamic duo because of their combined effect on cardiovascular health.
Garlic promotes heart and cardiovascular health and helps maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range. Many studies, including some from Pennsylvania State University, Tufts University School of Medicine and University of Alabama at Birmingham, offer compelling evidence that garlic helps prevent cardiovascular disease. Garlic’s sulfur compounds combat cholesterol by triggering the release of bile from the gall bladder and decreasing the production of cholesterol in the liver.
At the Co-Op we’ve coupled our Garlic with Cayenne, another ancient, vastly under-appreciated herb. Native Americans have used capsicum annuum, cayenne’s botanical name, for thousands of years in their food and medicine.
As if that weren’t exciting enough, cayenne has also been shown to improve heart health, fight inflammation, prevent stomach ulcers and help you burn fat and lose weight! Like garlic, cayenne has been shown to reduce cholesterol, lower blood pressure and act as an anti-coagulant. Capsacin, the active component in cayenne, also helps relieve the pain and inflammation caused by arthritis, rheumatism, and joint pain by inhibiting Substance P, a neuropeptide that transmits pain to the brain.
In tandem, this duo works wonders for your heart and your health. This kat thinks it’s a purr-fect pair!
(No coupon required. To enjoy the dollar off special, simply add Garlic and Cayenne to your cart between now and midnight December 5th, 2010.)

Fish Oil Shown to Combat Diabetes
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine recently identified the molecular mechanism that makes omega-3 fatty acids effective in reducing chronic inflammation and insulin resistance.
The research discovery could lead to development of a simple dietary remedy for many of the over 23 million Americans who currently suffer from diabetes and other conditions.
Writing in the September 3rd issue of Cell Magazine, Jerrold Olefsky, MD, and his colleagues identified a key receptor on macrophages that are found to be abundant in obese body fat. As research has shown, obesity and diabetes are closely correlated. According to this most recent study report, omega-3 fatty acids activate this macrophage receptor, resulting in broad anti-inflammatory effects and improved systemic insulin sensitivity.
For more information on the UCSD study and to see a video of Dr. Olefsky, explaining his research, visit the UC Health Website.
That's all for now, fair members! ^..^

Fish Oil, 1000 mg - Now $1 Off
Perhaps you already know that Fish Oil is a powerful tool for cardiovascular health. But do you know why?
Here's what this curious kat recently heard the humans talking about. Supplemental fish oils have triglyceride-lowering activity, and may also have anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, and immune system modulating actions. Treatment of myocardial infarction and stroke patients with one gram of fish oil daily significantly reduces the risk of overall and sudden death.
Studies also show that three or more grams (equal to three or more 1000mg softgels) of fish oil daily experience significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in individuals with untreated hypertension.
Note: To receive the $1.00 discount, just add Fish Oil, 1000 mg to your cart and then, upon check out, add the coupon code: fish in the space provided and click "Apply." (Offer valid through December 5, 2010.)
From a member who responded to Cindy's blog post about the labeling change:
"I have been a part of your nutritional family since the beginnings and have always been so impressed with the quality and the price.
The two products I hope you never stop carrying are the Cell Nutritionals Constant Health "Optimizing Immune, Intestinal & Detox Function and the Cell Nutritionals Soothing Greens.
You see I have suffered with IBD for years and years, and just recently been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and was in very much pain...these two products have helped me more than anything else I've taken. I've opted not to take the medication of choice and take natural products instead, and these are two of the products that are in my supplement plan...don't want to be without them, EVER..they have made that much of a difference.
I don't have the pain I once did and I can actually eat now without it causing severe cramps...thank you so very much and may God richly bless you all ~ Doris"
Note from this kat: Rich blessings to you too, Doris! Creating products that assist our fair members is what lights the Co-op team up each and every day. ^..^

How About a Really BIG Cat in Your Own Backyard?
You may love cats (how could you not?)... but the great BIG cat and its cubs a Colorado woman found in her own backyard might even make this brave kat a little nervous. (The little cubs did look like they could be great playmates, though, as long as their mom kept her distance.) ^..^
