We noticed many of you
voting for "No Clue" on prospective Co-op products. So
this kat has decided to do a little further introduction
to a few noteworthy items on the list:
Quercetin - We've
gotten a lot of requests for this allergy-tamer over the
years. In addition to gastro-protective properties,
quercetin acts to inhibit both the manufacture and
release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators.
This means less stress, irritation, redness, and itching
for your little cells. Quercetin also supports general
immune health and has been
linked with lower incidences of cancer.
Hydrochloric Acid -
It may sound like something scary out of chemistry
class, but hydrochloric acid is nothing more than plain
ole' stomach acid. In addition to aiding digestion by
helping the stomach break down food, hydrochloric acid
kills bad guy bacterial and fungal invaders.
Trouble is you produce far less hydrochloric acid
with age (up to 90% less by age 55, in fact), making
digestion and food absorption problematic. When food
isn't properly broken down in the stomach, molecules are
too large for your body to recognize, and allergic
reactions and even autoimmune disorders can occur in
response to normally healthy foods. You may need help
with digestion if you are experiencing “multiple food
allergies” like Cindy has in the past. Supplementing
with hydrochloric acid is far more affordable than
treating multiple food allergy symptoms. Good for
seniors, good for food allergies, good for the
pocketbook, seems like a good product for the Co-op!
Fast Fact: Too much hydrochloric acid
can hurt your stomach lining, so try a smaller amount
(don’t start with a 600 mg tablet!) and see how your
tummy feels. If no burning happens, you have found a
good amount for your system.
Rice Protein Powder
- Following the allergy theme ('tis the season for
sneezing, you know) rice protein is one of the most
easily digestible foods there is. And, since protein is
especially important for seniors because of its
role in muscle maintenance, rice protein is an ideal
source of protein for folks with sensitive systems as
well as seniors. Rice protein has also shown to support
healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Unfortunately, rice
protein has gotten a bit of a bad rap for its often
gritty texture. Lucky for you, we've found a source with
a "silk" technology that makes for an ultra-smooth rice
protein powder.
If any of these
explanations makes you change your mind about future
products, just
drop a line to
moi.
Cindy's Blog: Anti-Aging Supplements + Pregnenolone
Cindy wrote about another prospective Co-op
product on the survey -- pregnenolone. Sometimes called "the mother
hormone," pregnenolone is a precursor to important hormones like
DHEA, testosterone, estrogen and more.
Since we've had several members ask about it over the
years, Cindy took a visit to her naturopath and put together this blog on
pregnenolone:
