Here's a statistic for you from the American Journal of Preventative Medicine. Did you know people who weigh themselves at least once a week are SIX times more likely to lose weight than those that don't? Now we're not suggesting that hopping on and off the scale is the answer to all of your dieting woes--unless, of course, you do so aerobically for 30 minutes or more a day! But it turns out weekly weigh-ins are a good reality check. You can also do what fellow dieter Mary Jo does--which is go by the jeans test. We all know when our jeans are feeling blessedly loose. And we know when that darn washing machine has shrunk them once again. (When in doubt, blame the washing machine!) The interesting thing that Mary Jo has discovered on her dieting journey is that your taste buds do indeed change. Mary Jo confesses to allowing herself a 'cheat' once a week, Mary Jo is in Phase 4, something to look forward to if you are not there yet. For Halloween, she decided to allow herself a big cheat - everything sweet she wanted! She began to load up her shopping cart with donuts, M&Ms, Cheetos, cookies, jars of frosting, you name it--only to realize that she was no longer truly craving these things. Back on the shelf they went and she indulged in cole slaw and three-bean salad instead! So this week's tip, please weigh-in at least once a week. It will help keep you on track. No cheating until you get to Phase 4!! Let me know how you are doing, Thinking of you, Teri --------------------
