Greetings,
Vitamin D in Cancer Research Spotlight Again!
In 1971, President Richard Nixon declared war on cancer, and sadly, since
that year, cancer death rates have barely budged.
Are we losing the war? Is it time to try a new approach? Researchers believe
they have made the case for a new way to battle cancer. It is cheap, safe and
effective. It's called Vitamin D. See recent research from the
Vitamin D
Council.
In an American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
article
published early in June 2007, Creighton University Medical School researchers
detailed an astounding result of
dropping cancer rates. Subjects taking high doses of Vitamin D showed a 60%
decrease in the first year and a whopping 77% in the second
year.
No negative side effects were observed, only benefits to the immune system
and bones, brain, and muscles. While the study was small, the results are
significant, and you can bet there will be even more studies on the way.
Arthritis Gels: Arnica Compares Favorably with
Ibuprofin
According to the Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR), arnica is considered
unsafe for ingestion or on broken skin. However, the PDR notes topical tinctures
of arnica are routinely “used in countries such as Germany to treat contusions,
sprains, hematomas, rheumatic disorders and superficial inflammations of the
skin.”
Researchers at the Institute of Complementary Medicine at the University of
Zurich recently demonstrated that topical arnica gel
compares favorably with
ibuprofen gel in treating osteoarthritis of the hands.
Participants in the study received identical amounts of gel rubbed over
affected joints three times a day for three weeks.
The ibuprofen group had a 23.9% reduction in pain; the arnica group had a
26.6% reduction. Hand function improved similarly in both groups. Both
treatments were well tolerated, with 6.1% of the ibuprofen group and 4.8% of the
arnica group reporting adverse events.
That’s all for now, fair members! ^..^
Still purringly yours,
